Terms

The terms of the beta

Plain words, and not many of them. Last updated 8 October 2026.

Maat is a beta, and its money is not real

Every balance in Maat is play money. Top-ups come from a simulated bank. Balances cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for real currency, or used to buy real goods or services, and they have no cash value. Maat is not a bank, a payment institution or an issuer of electronic money, and nothing here is a financial service.

Using it

What to expect

The service is provided as it is, free of charge, with no promise that it will be available, that it will keep running, or that data will be kept. Wallets, accounts and history may be reset or removed during the beta, and accounts that break these terms may be closed.

Shops

Anyone with an account can open a shop, up to three. Payments to a shop, the 3% fee and payouts are all in play money and create no obligation to pay anything real. Shop names must not impersonate real businesses or be abusive.

Changes

These terms will change as Maat does. The date at the top says when they last did.
